Step 5

Hannah Gunson

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: I know that I'm making popcorn!

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: I didn't know where to start, my eyes kind of took it all in so a definitive start and finish would be great. Making it more exciting! This is POPcorn! Popcorn is the greatest thing since sliced bread! I'm not so sold on the background color, I think it's too subdued for a popcorn how to poster. It's very pretty and you do need contrast but...happier contrast.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: Directions are clear, I know what I'm doing. Those images are great colors and the images are also really cute. They're aesthetically pleasing, simple without being abstract, and it's again very clear.

Q; What do you understand from the poster?
A: How to make popcorn in an air popper!

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: Maybe the placement and size of the top 2 images? And a lighter background?

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: The images themselves are very good! I also like the polka dot texture. I also like the colors a lot.

Dallan Shields

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: Yes, it makes me want popcorn...

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: Maybe change the shading on the background? It's a bit sporadic. If you could rearrange the placement of the diagram, your eyes tend to work better in a circular motion. Maybe you could add a mouth smiling and eating the finished popcorn?

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: The thumbs up is good! The butter adding was a great idea. The color scheme was intriguing.

Chelsea Tipton

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: It's how to make popcorn!

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: At first I didn't understand that they were popcorn kernels so maybe put them in a popcorn bag with a common logo? I guess it IS kind of hard to show that they're kernels haha. What about the salt?? I can't think of anything else!

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: I love the colors! The simplicity is perfect! It's very clear and so cute. Such a simple thing to demonstrate but if I didn't know how to make it I would definitely know after looking at this!

Porter Justus

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: I understand the process of putting the kernels in the cup and then adding it to the maker and it popping. I am confused about how the butter and kernels are added together? Since the butter is poured later I get that after.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: Move the butter away from the kernels. Change the butter dish in the assembly to be red with a yellow rim so that I understand that it's the same thing. Take off the orange in the final popcorn because it's too similar to the bowl and only have yellow and white popcorn.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A; The flow is very good, I understand where everything is going. I like that the end is at the top instead of the bottom. The repetition of colors is nice along with the specificity.

Lani Call

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: I am in a kitchen making popcorn.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can do to improve?
A: At first I was confused, but then everything made sense. I'm not sure how you would go about fixing that. The kernels are red, typically they are orange. I'm not sure what else to say.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: The whole thing is quite neat. I love how you have the little popcorns in the background. The arrows make sense and I love the details like the plug.

Ned Wilcox

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: Obtain the ingredients, put them in the popper, let the popper ex-sponge into the bowl, coat with melted butter and take joy in the fact that you have popcorn.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can improve?
A:  It's not extremely obvious on where you start. I'm confused about the cups, is this one the same as the other one in the assembly? The end is a bit crowded.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: I was able to make it through. I can tell what everything is. The colors are attractive.

Matt Allen

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: It's directions to make popcorn. I understand the order.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can improve?
A: Adjust the layout to not have as much empty space. A different background color besides the green would be good to break it up. Adjust the arrows to match the style of the images.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A; The colors are nice and the color contrast, everything is nice and bright. It is very clear and I understand what each step is. You picked a complicated thing and made it easy to understand.

Sharla Nielson

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: It's a poster about making homemade popcorn

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can improve?
A: It took me a minute to figure it out. The kernels are too red. Maybe put the plus butter in a different spot.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: The colors and the contrast. The popcorn in the background is really nice, it doesn't distract from the foreground. The detail with the popcorn and the butter and the plug.

Jeff Nielson

Q: What do you understand from the poster?
A: How to make popcorn

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I can improve?
A: How does the butter melt? If this is the butter dish, make it red. I thought the butter dish was a scooper for the kernels. Why are the kernels red? It looks like candy corn.

Q: What are the 3 biggest things I did well?
A: Everything is very self explanatory and easy to understand. Good use of color! I like how it isn't the typical white or black and that it has a good texture. Really good use of um..."explanatory images?" I don't know how to really explain it haha like for example you showed the thumbs up that the popcorn is good to eat and the outlet like you could have done without it and people would've understood but you added it and it's really nice that you did. I love the use of color and the texture in the background, this is really cool.

  1. The insights and knowledge you have from your observations are awesome! You have some great feedback that can help you to strengthen your designs. It seems like everything they mentioned were concerns I had to! So that's nice you're getting consistent feedback :) You have all ten of your interview/observations but I didn't see a video. I don't know if you were having trouble with it but a video would really help us understand your own personal knowledge of design and structure.

I really wish I could see a video to understand how you felt about the feedback. I think something you could have done to improve your observations is maybe adding a few more questions in the questionnaire. You have awesome questions already but maybe adding one or two more questions could work to strengthen your knowledge and understanding of other's perspectives.

  2. Great job on user testing!
I'd like to see some highlights from what is happening in your user testing. Maybe something like common things people have said. Some things that you learned in particular.
