Steps 3 & 4

This project taught me a lot about simplifying and edifying. By that I mean simplifying your poster while elevating it to a higher level of conceptual ideas. I struggled with the edifying part, I don't think I really took this poster to a higher conceptual level. I also learned that making infographics is a lot of fun and comes naturally to me. My dad helped me a lot to get the poster printed and we ran into quite a few obstacles when trying to accomplish that. How To posters are a lot of fun but there are not a lot out there which was interesting when researching ideas. Creating a video was also surprisingly hard, I don't have a lot of video experience so that pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Time management was a hard one for me as well because I am visiting my family before my sister leaves for her mission so I have been distracted. I was glad I photographed many different angles and options of accomplishing these steps that way I had a lot of material to go off of. This allowed me to have a lot of images to look back on and if I needed to change my approach I had already thought of alternative options. I always find that you can never do enough research in a project, meaning I am always going and finding more as I delve deeper into the steps and requirements. As I prepared to print I made sure I printed samples to make sure my colors looked how I wanted them. I learned though that even doing that can result in surprises seeing as everyone's printers do color differently. I do not have my video on here because I am having technical difficulties. I will post it once I get that part figured out!

  1. In this post I don't really see any variations but a great refinement and final design! I'm not sure if those variations are somewhere else but I think you have created a great design and visual poster. I also can't find the link to your video, but I know you have been issues with that.

I think this poster design does a great way in displaying the steps, ingredients and tools required to complete the task. I think you did a great way in simplifying the steps and creating awesome movement throughout the poster.
What could have been improved regarding the visual communication of the final poster? (what wasn’t clear to you?)
I think all of the elements you incorporated work great in the poster design. I love the illustrations and the color scheme you included. I honestly think that each element works great in communicating each step to your audience. I think your refinement of the kernels and the popcorn pieces are awesome and help to associate the illustrations better with the audience.

I also liked your use of symbols throughout the design. It looks like the weight of the arrows are the same thickness as the plug and cord of the popcorn machine. This shows great consistency in your design and in the entire illustration as a whole.

I think everything is working so well in this poster design. But I did notice that the gray measuring cup should maybe have been red? If that was in fact showing the measuring cup where the kernels were being poured into the popcorn machine. I wasn't exactly sure about that design choice. I also felt that the background as a whole could potentially be hindering the design. Maybe giving the illustrations a lighter opacity could help with the design and enhance the rest of the step's illustrations. The background seems to be competing for attention and you want to try to avoid that. Overall though, great work! I can tell that you spent a lot of time on this project and I really think it has paid off! Great job on this. You should be proud of your work.

  2. Megan,
Great job! I like the blue background a lot! I think it helps contrast better with the popcorn. However, I feel like the popcorn in the background isn't helping the viewer. I'd consider removing them or finding another texture.

I wish you would have left the flow of the instructions clockwise rather than counter-clockwise. It's confusing to have to change my mind half way through.

Other than those few things I think you did really well! Great job on you poster!
