Mapping Steps 3 & 4

This project was a lot of fun! I was surprised how quickly it ended. Even though Brother Frohn told us we don't need to print until next week I decided to anyway since I finished the poster and wanted to get it done and out of the way. I feel that my poster direction directly correlates with my data set not only in the literal sense but a cultural one as well. Everyone knows the typical cow is black and white which is probably why "got milk?" uses those colors in their advertisements and logo. I chose to mimic this idea and design element but I still made it my own through typography choices and stylistic creations of the poster.

One thing I discovered in printing which I found quite odd was that the black and white print had a deeper, richer black than the color one. I'm not going to lie, that form-centric map was racking my brain. I had never heard of the term before this class and since it was so hard to research the idea I was stumped until I got some ideas from fellow classmates and Brother Randall. I feel that I played well on the youthful feel milk has in both of my maps and that I was able to create something beautiful to represent milk consumption data.

  1. I think I like the second one best… the milk carton is on that one to indicate milk, not another substance and the country isn’t falling down into your data. I like how you have the “milk consumption per capita” tucked under the title the way it is.
Is there a reason glass five is smaller? Now I read it, it just looks odd unless there is a reason. Maybe borrow a few glasses from a neighbor, although, those are cute glasses.
You look as if you have the minimum requirement.

  2. I hate you for your data map. You give us so much pressure to live up to! ;D

Anyways, despite what the class seems to think, I like the poster without the milk carton better. I see that it's milk right off the bat. That combined with the familiar Got Milk? campaign sells it for me. Great work on that!

Loving your form map! Great work on this piece! I like the straight on angle best. It shows off the stats better.
